Pips solver
Only here Gives safe hints — dominoes that sit the same way in every possible solution — and tells you whether your board has none, one or several solutions.
For Pips and other domino-placement puzzles. Shape the board, paint each region and set its rule, list your dominoes, then ask for a hint or the answer.
Tap a square to start a region, then tap the rest of its squares.

No regions yet.
0 dominoes for 16 squares.
How it solves
It tries dominoes square by square, top-left first, and backs out as soon as a region's rule can no longer be met (a sum already too big, or too small to reach with what's left; values that should match but don't). That finds every arrangement quickly for boards of normal size.
A hint is a domino that sits in the same place, the same way round, in every arrangement that works, so it's always safe to place, even if the puzzle has more than one solution. "Check board" tells you whether your board has no solution, exactly one, or several.
You enter the boards yourself; Grind Toolkit doesn't copy any publisher's puzzles. Not affiliated with The New York Times.
